Community Involvement
Boise Cascade realizes that our employees are integral parts of the communities where they live. That’s why we encourage volunteer activities and have a localized approach to donations.
Our employees contribute time and energy to make a difference in their communities in a variety of ways – from holding charity drives for homeless children and adopting needy families at Christmas to teaching school kids about our products and business. Boise employees are National Guard members, volunteer firefighters, and tutors; they build Habitat for Humanity houses and raise money for their churches.
Donation decisions are largely made at the location level, where employees are in tune with the needs of their neighbors. We encourage our locations to budget for and determine contribution efforts that have the most values in their town and region.
At the Corporate level, we have a Volunteer Steering Committee which directs employee volunteer efforts throughout the area. Volunteer opportunities range from one-night commitments helping out local theatrical performances to ongoing projects like the Boise River Clean Up Project to sorting food for the Idaho Food Bank.
Boise Cascade focuses on United Way. In 2008, we had fun with the contribution drive at Headquarters. We played Rock Star over a lunch of chili and cornbread, and held a canned food drive. Our employees donated 783 cans of food or an equivalent of approximately 740 pounds of food. When you consider that the number of employees in HQ is only 146 people, then you understand the passion we feel in helping our community. You can view this community spirit at any of our locations. In addition, we sponsored a loaned executive to the United Way's Community Campaign. The 2008 campaign was very successful locally with Boise Cascade LLC included in the organizations that contributed $50,000+. Locations across the company held local campaigns and donated tens of thousands of additional dollars to their regional United Way chapters.
