Sustainable Building Credits

The following information describes potential for rating credits for regional materials under LEEDS for Homes 2008, LEED 2009 for new construction, GreenGlobes, National Green Building Standard (ICC 700-2008), 2010 California Green Building standards Code (CAL Green), ANSI/GBI 01-2010 and ANSI/ ASHRAE/USGBC/IES Standard 189.1-2009.

Several credits for various sustainable building practices rating systems are available to users of Boise Cascade Engineered Wood Products. For a complete list and explanation of credits, please see the BOISE SAVE ICC evaluation report (would put a link here once we get the actual report finished – estimated in 4 weeks)
One of the many credits available is for use of regionally produced material. To determine if your project qualifies for this credit the following procedure should be followed.

Using the web site, CLICK ON THE PLANT from which the product is to be purchased. Once the plant is shown on the map, click on the bubble indicating the specific plant. By clicking on the name of the plant, a direction and driving distance menu will appear. The user can then simply insert the jobsite address (or the address where the product will be shipped to the actual driving distance will be calculated and displayed.

To claim credit for using regionally produced material, the product must be produced within a distance of 500 miles. However, this mileage must also include the mileage required to get raw material into the plant.   Since our plants ship raw material on to the site, the entire 500 mile distance is no longer available. The following chart indicates when such a credit is available to the user and how much of the 500-mile allowance remains available.  A credit for using regionally produced material is available if the jobsite or shipping location is located within the distance shown in the table from the production facility.

In some cases, the distance to secure raw material is already greater than the 500-mile limit. While we make every effort to ship this material as cost and environmentally effectively as possible, in these cases, these products will not be eligible for the regional credit. Products that are included in this category are indicated with N/A in the table. Blank spaces indicate that a particular product is not produced from that plant.
