White City, Chester and Roxboro earn safety awards

The APA Safety and Health Awards is the premier program for the engineered wood industry in North America. Three Boise Cascade mills were honored for 2018 accomplishments and will be recognized at the 2019 APA Annual Meeting in November in Tucson, AZ:

  • Roxboro was added to the Incident-Free Honor Society and received a Safety & Honor Roll Award (2nd place).
  • White City Engineered Wood Product (EWP) was recognized with a Safety Improvement Award (93% improvement over the last three years). White City EWP improved from a 2.05 incident rate in 2016 to a 0.59 incident rate in 2018, with a corresponding improvement in their weighted incident rate from 8.21 in 2016 to 0.59 in 2018.
  • Chester Plywood received a Safety & Honor Roll Award (2nd place) and a Three-Year Safety Award (2016-2018).

Other notable safety achievements for the Wood Products division in 2018 included:

  • In the plywood division, Boise Cascade mills were six of the top 10 safest mills. In the laminated veneer lumber (LVL), structural composite lumber (SCL), I-joist & Glulam division, all but one of the Boise Cascade mills were above the industry average for weighted incident rate.

“The APA Safety and Health Advisory Committee is committed to sharing what we learn from serious incidents, which will help companies provide safer workplaces to protect our most precious asset – our people,” said Terry Evans, Wood Products Division Safety Manager. “We realize that none of us are smarter than all of us, and safety is one area in our competitive environment in which we can all collaborate.”

Congratulations to the Wood Products division for these achievements!
